What is PDF to JPG conversion?

Converting a PDF to JPG turns each page into a picture. Pictures are easier to post in a chat or on social media, to put on a slide or a web page, or to open on a device without a PDF viewer.

Tool description

This tool loads one PDF and shows every page as a thumbnail, with all pages selected. Untick the pages you don't need, or type them as page numbers and ranges, then pick a resolution and a quality and download. A single page downloads as a JPG file, several pages come in one ZIP.

Features

  • Converts every page, or only the pages you pick
  • Three resolutions: 72 DPI for screens, 150 DPI for most uses and 300 DPI for printing
  • Three quality levels to trade file size against detail
  • Saves the resolution in each image, so it prints at the size of the page
  • Runs in your browser, so your PDF is never uploaded

Image sizes

An A4 page comes out at these sizes:

Resolution Image size
72 DPI 595 x 842 pixels
150 DPI 1240 x 1754 pixels
300 DPI 2480 x 3508 pixels

Very large pages, such as posters, are scaled down to about 16 megapixels per image, the largest picture an iPhone or iPad can draw.

Tips

  • Parts of a page with no background come out white, since JPG has no transparency.
  • For sharp text without JPG blur around the letters, use the PDF to PNG converter instead.
  • Images in the ZIP are named after the page, such as report-page-03.jpg, so they sort in page order.
  • PDFs protected with a password can't be converted. Remove the password first.
