What is a blank page remover?
Blank pages end up in PDFs from double sided scanning, from books that start every chapter on a right hand page, and from merged files. A blank page remover finds them and saves a copy of the PDF without them.
Tool description
This tool loads one PDF, looks at every page and marks the blank ones for removal. Check the marked pages, tick or untick any page yourself, and download the PDF without the marked pages. The Sensitivity setting decides what counts as blank, and changing it marks the pages again right away.
Features
- Finds blank pages and marks them for removal
- Three sensitivity levels, from only white pages to pages with just a page number
- Ignores a thin strip along the page edges, where scanners leave dark borders
- Lets you mark or unmark any page before you download
- Keeps links between the kept pages, and the document title, author and subject
- Runs in your browser, so your PDF is never uploaded
Sensitivity levels
- Strict finds only pages without any ink. Light tints, such as the gray background of a scan, still count as white.
- Normal also finds pages with only specks of dust or scanner noise. This is the default.
- Loose also finds pages with a few small marks, such as a page number.
A pixel counts as ink when it is clearly darker than paper. Ink pixels that touch form a mark, and marks up to about 1 mm across count as specks.
Tips
- A page that says "This page intentionally left blank" has too much text to count as blank. Tick it yourself.
- Very faint content, such as a light pencil sketch, can look blank. Open a marked page in the preview before you download.
