To make a Chrome Web Store screenshot, use the Chrome Web Store screenshot generator. Upload a capture of your extension, add a headline, and download the image as PNG. The default output size is the store size of 1280 by 800 pixels. The image is exported at exactly this size, so you can upload it directly.

A plain screenshot of your extension does not sell it. The same screenshot with a headline, a colored background, and a browser frame looks like a finished product. This is what the tool makes.

What to prepare

  • A clean screenshot of your extension in use. Crop it to the popup or the page, not the whole desktop.
  • A headline of three to five words that says the main benefit, such as "Block trackers on every site".
  • A subtitle with one line of extra detail.

If your extension has several features, make one image per feature.

How to make one image

  1. Upload the screenshot under Screenshot.
  2. Type your headline and subtitle. The default texts are only examples, so replace both.
  3. Choose a Template Layout. The text can go above, below, left, or right of the image.
  4. Set Device Frame to Browser to show the screenshot inside a browser window, or to None for the plain image.
  5. Choose a background: one solid color, or a gradient between two colors.
  6. Move the Screenshot Scale slider if the image looks too big or too small.
  7. Export the image as PNG.

How to make it look good

  • Keep the headline short and the font size large. In search results the image is small, and long text becomes unreadable.
  • Use a gradient between two similar colors. A strong color jump distracts from the screenshot.
  • If you use the browser frame, set Frame Color to the same color as the background. Then the frame blends in.
  • Use the same style for all your images: same background, same font, same headline size. Then the listing looks like one set.

PNG or JPG

Use PNG. It keeps the full quality, and the file is small at this size. Use JPG only when you need a smaller file for another place, like a README or a social media post.

Put your strongest image first. It is the first one people see.
