What is PDF page extraction?

PDF page extraction copies chosen pages out of a document into a new, smaller PDF. It is the quick way to share one chapter of a report, send a single signed page, or keep only the pages of a scan that you need.

Tool description

This tool loads one PDF and shows every page as a thumbnail. Tick the pages you want, or type them as page numbers and ranges, then download a new PDF that holds only those pages.

Features

  • Works with one PDF at a time
  • Pick pages by ticking thumbnails or by typing a selection such as 1-3, 5, 8-
  • Keeps the typed selection and the ticked thumbnails in sync
  • Opens any page in a full-size preview
  • Keeps links between the extracted pages working
  • Keeps the document title, author and subject

How it works

The PDF is rendered locally in the browser to draw the thumbnails. On download, the chosen pages are copied into a new document in their original order, without re-rendering or recompressing their content. Links that point to a page you left out are removed, and nothing from the pages you left out is carried into the new file. Your file never leaves your device.

Tips

  • A range that ends with a dash, such as 8-, runs to the last page.
  • Ranges can be typed in any order and may overlap: 5, 1-3, 2 gives pages 1, 2, 3 and 5.
  • The extracted pages always keep the order they have in the original document. Use a page organizer tool afterwards if you need a different order.
  • Bookmarks are not carried over, and form fields keep their look but can no longer be filled in.
