What does flipping an image do?
Flipping mirrors an image. A horizontal flip swaps left and right, like your reflection in a mirror. A vertical flip swaps top and bottom. Doing both gives the same result as turning the image by 180°. Front cameras often save selfies mirrored, so a horizontal flip makes text on a shirt or a sign read the right way again. Designers flip photos so a person looks into the layout instead of off the page.
Tool description
Open an image and it's flipped horizontally right away. Tick "Flip vertically" to turn it upside down as well, or untick "Flip horizontally" to flip it only vertically. Use the comparison slider to see the original next to the flipped version, then download it as PNG, JPG, or WebP.
Features
- Horizontal, vertical, or both flips
- Before and after comparison
- An exact copy of every pixel, with nothing blurred or resized
- Runs in your browser, so your images are never uploaded
Tips
- Check for text, numbers, and logos before you publish a flipped photo: they read backwards after a horizontal flip.
- Faces are rarely perfectly symmetrical, so a flipped portrait can look slightly off to people who know the person.
