What is a dummy Excel file?

A dummy Excel file is a spreadsheet filled with fake data. It's handy for testing an app that imports spreadsheets, checking how a report copes with thousands of rows, or giving a demo without showing real customer records.

Tool description

This tool builds a spreadsheet of realistic fake data and saves it as XLSX for Excel 2007 and later, XLS for Excel 97 to 2003, or ODS (OpenDocument). Choose the columns, such as ID, names, email, company, address, date, amount and product, then set the rows per sheet and the number of sheets. Each sheet gets its own random rows, and the sheets are named Sheet1, Sheet2 and so on.

Numbers, dates and true or false values are saved as number, date and boolean cells, not as text, so a spreadsheet app can sort and sum them. Column widths are set to fit the data. You can leave out the header row, and Regenerate makes a new set of values.

The preview table shows the first 50 rows of the first sheet, along with the sheet count, total rows and file size. The file is created in your browser.
