What is a dummy CSV file?

A dummy CSV file is a table of made up data saved as plain text, one row per line with the values split by commas. You need one when you build or test a CSV import, since real customer data is private and typing a few hundred rows by hand is nobody's idea of fun.

Tool description

This tool fills a CSV file with realistic fake data. Pick the columns from the Columns menu, such as ID, names, email, phone, company, address, date, amount, product, UUID, IP address or URL, and set the number of rows, up to 100,000. The columns always come out in the same order, whatever order you pick them in.

You can choose the delimiter (comma, semicolon, tab or pipe), LF or CRLF line endings, and whether to include a header row, quote every value, or add a UTF-8 BOM so Excel opens the file with the right encoding. Regenerate gives you a fresh set of values.

The preview shows the first 100 lines, with the row count and file size above it. The file is built in your browser.

Example

id,first_name,last_name,email,city,date,amount
1,Maria,Schmidt,Jordan_Kuhn@gmail.com,Port Kaylee,2024-03-18,1249.37
2,Dwayne,Renner,Lena.Hartmann41@yahoo.com,East Ellenmouth,2023-11-02,87.15

Dates are written as YYYY-MM-DD. Each value is random on its own, so the email won't match the name in the same row.

Features

  • 20 column types with realistic fake values
  • Comma, semicolon, tab or pipe delimiter, with LF or CRLF line endings
  • Optional header row, quoting and UTF-8 BOM
