What is a camt.053 file?

camt.053 is the ISO 20022 XML message banks use for account statements, the "Bank to Customer Statement". It lists an account's opening and closing balances and every booked entry in between, with references, counterparties and payment details. Accounting, ERP and treasury software imports these files to reconcile payments, so anyone building or testing such an import needs sample statements, and real ones are full of private data.

Tool description

This tool builds a camt.053 statement with made up data. Pick the format version: camt.053.001.08 (2019, the one SWIFT CBPR+ is based on), camt.053.001.04 (2013) or camt.053.001.02 (2009, still widely used). Each file follows the official XML schema of its version.

Type the IBAN, BIC and account holder your software expects, or leave them empty for random ones. Then set the statement period, the currency and the opening balance.

The transactions come from one of two tabs. On the Random tab, set how many you want and their amount range, and choose which types to include: incoming and outgoing credit transfers, direct debits and card payments, each with the matching ISO bank transaction code. Payment details can be free text, RF creditor references (ISO 11649) or a mix of both.

On the Configured tab, you add the exact transactions you need, for example to test how your software matches specific payments. For each one, choose incoming or outgoing and set the booking date, the counterparty IBAN, the amount and the payment reference. A valid RF creditor reference goes into the structured reference field, and anything else, such as an invoice number, goes in as free text. Fields you leave empty get random values: a transaction without a date lands on a random weekday of the period, and a date outside the period is marked and replaced the same way. The statement uses the transactions of the tab that's open, and each tab keeps its settings when you switch.

Random transactions are booked on weekdays, and their counterparties repeat across the period, as they do on real statements. Random IBANs pass the check digit test and BICs match their IBAN's country. Regenerate gives you new data with the same settings. Everything is built in your browser.
