What is Code 93?

Code 93 is a linear barcode introduced by Intermec in 1982 as a denser and more reliable successor of Code 39. It encodes the same 43 characters, the capital letters A to Z, the digits 0 to 9, the space and the symbols - . $ / + %, but in fewer bars, and always ends in two check characters. Its Full ASCII mode encodes the other ASCII characters, such as lowercase letters, as pairs of a shift character and a letter. Canada Post uses it, and it appears in electronics and on logistics labels.

Tool description

Type text and the tool draws its Code 93 barcode as you type, with the start and stop characters and both check characters added. Capital letters, digits, spaces and - . $ / + % are encoded as they are, and other ASCII characters in Full ASCII mode. Change the bar and background colors, hide the text under the bars if you don't need it, and download the barcode as a PNG, JPG or WebP image.

Features

  • Full ASCII - letters, digits, spaces and symbols, lowercase included
  • Check characters - both of them added for you
  • Custom colors - any color for the bars and the background
  • Image download - PNG, JPG or WebP

Tips

  • If your scanner reads lowercase letters as pairs of characters, turn on its Full ASCII setting for Code 93, or use only capital letters.
  • Letters with accents and characters of other alphabets aren't ASCII, so Code 93 can't encode them.
  • Keep dark bars on a light background, and leave blank space on both sides of the barcode when you print it.
