What is a Steam ID?

Every Steam account has a permanent number that never changes, even when its owner renames the account or changes its custom profile URL. Games, servers and websites write that number in different formats:

Format Example Where you see it
SteamID64 76561197960287930 Profile links, the Steam Web API, most websites
SteamID STEAM_0:0:11101 Source game consoles, server admin plugins, ban lists
SteamID3 [U:1:22202] Newer Source games and server logs
Account ID 22202 Friend codes, Dota 2 and some trading sites

Games such as CS2 write the SteamID as STEAM_1:0:11101; it's the same account.

Tool description

Enter a Steam profile and press Find Steam ID. You can type any of:

  • A profile link: steamcommunity.com/id/gabelogannewell or steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197960287930
  • A custom URL name on its own: gabelogannewell
  • A SteamID64, SteamID or SteamID3

You get all four ID formats, the Profile URL that never changes, the Custom URL when the profile shows one, the Profile name and avatar, and whether the profile is Public, Friends only or Private.

The lookup runs on our server, which reads the profile from Valve's own steamcommunity.com (the profile's XML page), so no Steam Web API key is needed. When you enter an ID, the conversions are worked out directly, and the profile only adds the name and avatar.

AI assistants connected to the Rapid Tool Set MCP server can run the same lookup as steam_id_finder.

Tips

  • A custom URL can be changed or taken over by someone else; for ban lists and server admin files, always save the SteamID64 or SteamID.
  • A private profile still shows its name, avatar and IDs, but not its custom URL.
