What is MSI?

MSI, also called Modified Plessey, is a linear barcode for numbers only, developed by the MSI Data Corporation. It's mostly used for inventory, on warehouse bins and on supermarket shelf labels. Its check digit is optional and comes in several kinds: Mod 10 is the most common, and some systems use Mod 11 or two check digits.

Tool description

Enter digits and pick the check digit your scanner or system expects: none, Mod 10, Mod 11, Mod 10 + Mod 10 or Mod 11 + Mod 10. The tool calculates it, adds it to the end of the number and draws the barcode as you type. Change the bar and background colors, hide the digits if you don't need them, and download the barcode as a PNG, JPG or WebP image.

Features

  • Five check digit options - none, Mod 10, Mod 11 and two kinds of double check digits
  • Digits only - any number of digits, with the check digit added
  • Custom colors - any color for the bars and the background
  • Image download - PNG, JPG or WebP

Tips

  • Scanners are usually set to one kind of check digit. If yours doesn't read the barcode, try the other kinds, starting with Mod 10.
  • Enter the number without its check digit: the tool adds it.
