What is a circle crop?

A circle crop cuts a round part out of an image and makes everything outside the circle transparent. Profile pictures, avatars, team pages, and stickers use it, since a round photo stands out in a layout full of rectangles. The file itself is still a square, with transparent corners, so it needs a format that keeps transparency, like PNG or WebP.

Tool description

Open an image and the largest circle that fits appears in its middle. Drag the circle to move it, drag a handle to resize it, or draw a new one anywhere on the image. The arrow keys move it by a pixel, or by ten with Shift. The diameter field shows the size of the result in pixels. The download is a square PNG with the circle and transparent corners.

Features

  • A crop circle you can move and resize, and it always stays round
  • Square PNG output with transparent corners and a smooth edge
  • The diameter shown in pixels
  • Runs in your browser, so your images are never uploaded

Tips

  • Avatars are often shown small, so crop close around the head and shoulders and keep the face near the middle.
  • If you save as JPG, the corners turn white, since JPG has no transparency.
