What is an ICAO airport code?

ICAO airport codes are the 4-letter identifiers used in aviation operations, charts, dispatch systems, and air traffic communication. They are more structured than IATA codes and often include geographic hints in the prefix.

These codes are not usually shown to passengers, but they are important for flight planning and operational data.

Tool description

This tool validates a 4-letter ICAO code and resolves the matching airport details from the bundled airport dataset. It shows the airport name, IATA code, and country code when a match exists.

Use it to confirm whether an ICAO code is valid or to map it back to the corresponding passenger-facing airport code.

Examples

  • EGLL
  • KJFK
  • LFPG

Features

  • Automatic uppercase normalization
  • Exact-length validation for 4-letter input
  • Parsed output with airport name, IATA code, and country code

Limitations

The tool returns only the first matching airport from the dataset. It does not attempt to disambiguate all possible matches.

Results are limited by the bundled airport data, so coverage depends on that source.
