What is a disposable email address?

A disposable email address is an inbox that works for a few minutes or hours and then disappears. Services like Mailinator, 10 Minute Mail and Guerrilla Mail hand them out with no sign up, so people use them to grab a download link or a free trial without giving away their real address.

That's handy for the person signing up, and a headache for the site: the account can't be reached later, password resets go nowhere, and the same person can sign up again and again. That's why many sign up forms check the email domain against a list of known disposable services.

Tool description

Enter an email address, or just its domain, and press Check email. Our server checks two things:

  • Whether the domain is on the disposable-email-domains list, about 10,000 domains of throwaway mail services. Subdomains of a listed domain count too.
  • Whether the domain accepts email at all, from its MX records. A domain with no mail servers, or with a "null MX" (0 .) that says it never takes mail, can't receive your confirmation email either.

No email is sent and no mail server is contacted, so the person behind the address never knows it was checked.

AI assistants connected to the Rapid Tool Set MCP server can run the same check as disposable_email_checker.

Tips

  • A domain that isn't on the list may still be disposable. New services appear every week, so treat a pass as "probably fine", not a guarantee.
  • Free providers like Gmail, Outlook and Proton Mail are not disposable. Blocking them blocks real users.
  • Sending a confirmation link is still the only way to know the inbox works and belongs to the person typing it.
