What is Return YouTube Dislike?
YouTube removed the public dislike count in late 2021, leaving viewers unable to see how many people disliked videos. The Return YouTube Dislike (RYD) project is a community-driven initiative that collects and aggregates dislike data from various sources, including browser extension data, archived information, and API data. It provides an open-source alternative that restores visibility to dislike metrics, helping users make informed decisions about video quality and content.
Tool description
The YouTube Dislike Checker retrieves dislike and engagement metrics for YouTube videos using the Return YouTube Dislike API. Enter a YouTube video URL or video ID to see the video's like count, dislike count, total engagement, and community rating. The tool displays metrics including the like-to-dislike ratio, engagement percentage, and an overall rating based on community votes.
Features
- Real-time dislikes: Retrieve current dislike data from the Return YouTube Dislike database
- Multiple input formats: Accept full YouTube URLs (youtube.com/watch?v=...) or just the video ID
- Comprehensive metrics: See likes, dislikes, view count, engagement ratio, and community rating
- Engagement analysis: Understand video reception through like/dislike ratios and percentages
How it works
When you provide a YouTube video URL or ID, the tool connects to the Return YouTube Dislike API and queries their database for that video's metrics. The API returns aggregated like/dislike data collected from multiple sources. The tool then calculates additional metrics like the engagement ratio and displays results in an easy-to-read format. If the video is not found in the database (recently uploaded or not yet indexed), the tool will indicate that.
Tips
- Videos must have been in the YouTube database before the dislike removal to have reliable metrics
- Newly uploaded videos may not have dislike data in the Return YouTube Dislike database yet
- Engagement ratio (likes + dislikes vs views) indicates how much of an audience interacted with the video
- Higher like percentages and ratings indicate more positive audience reception
- Some deleted videos may still exist in the RYD database from before deletion
Limitations
- Data depends on the Return YouTube Dislike database accuracy and coverage
- Recently uploaded videos may not have sufficient community data
- Metrics are aggregated and may not be 100% accurate representations of real YouTube data
- The API requires rate limiting to prevent abuse, so frequent checks on the same video may be throttled
