What is keyword density?
Keyword density is the ratio of how often a word or phrase appears in a piece of text compared with the total word count. It is often used as a quick signal when reviewing search-focused copy, headings, or content repetition.
The metric is simple, but it does not tell the whole story. A page can use a keyword naturally and still rank well, while overly repetitive text can read poorly even if the density looks high.
Tool description
This tool measures how frequently selected keywords appear in a body of text. Paste your content, provide one or more keywords, and get counts plus density percentages in a sortable table.
It is useful for proofreading, content audits, and quick SEO-style checks when you want a fast read on repetition.
Examples
Example use cases:
- Check whether a product landing page overuses the same phrase
- Compare keyword frequency across competing article drafts
- Review a translated page to see whether important terms were preserved
Features
- Keyword counting: Shows how many times each term appears in the text
- Density table: Calculates each keyword's share of the total word count
- Flexible matching: Supports comma-separated or line-separated keyword input
How it works
The tool tokenizes the text, counts exact keyword matches, and calculates density from the total word count. Repeated keyword entries are deduplicated so the table focuses on unique terms.
Limitations
- It counts text literally and does not apply stemming or synonym matching.
- Case sensitivity can change the result if your keyword list mixes variants.
- Phrase density is based on contiguous matches, not semantic similarity.
