What is vibrance?

Vibrance is a smarter saturation control. Plain saturation makes every color stronger by the same amount, so colors that are already vivid lose their detail and skin turns orange. Vibrance boosts muted colors the most, like a hazy sky or pale leaves, barely touches colors that are already strong, and goes easy on skin tones. It's the slider to try first when a portrait or a landscape looks flat.

Tool description

Open a photo and drag the Vibrance slider. To the right, dull colors gain the most while vivid ones change little. To the left, weak colors fade toward gray first, which gives a muted look where the strongest colors and skin tones still show. The preview updates as you drag, and the compare button shows the original next to the edit. Download the full size result as JPG, PNG, or WebP.

Features

  • Boosts muted colors more than saturated ones, so nothing clips
  • Spares skin tones, so faces don't turn orange
  • Keeps the brightness, with a live before and after comparison

How it works

For every pixel the tool measures how close its color already is to the strongest version the screen can show at that brightness. A nearly gray color gets the full effect, a color halfway there gets half, and a color at the limit gets none, so even the highest setting never pushes a color past full saturation. Hues between red and yellow, where skin tones sit, get a smaller share. The change itself mixes each color with the gray of the same brightness in linear light, so the picture doesn't get darker or lighter.

Tips

  • Try 30 to 60 on landscapes and portraits: skies and greenery get richer while faces stay natural.
  • Negative values mute busy backgrounds and leave bold colors and skin standing out.
  • Transparent PNG images keep their transparency. Download them as PNG or WebP to keep it.
