Tool description

This tool translates SRT and WebVTT subtitle files with AI. Open a subtitle file, pick the language, and download subtitles that play with the same video at the same times.

The file is read in your browser. Only the text of each cue is sent for translation. Cue numbers, timings, positioning settings, WEBVTT headers, NOTE and STYLE blocks are copied as they are. The AI is asked to keep each line about as long as the original, so the subtitles can still be read in the time they are on screen.

Features

  • Keeps every cue number, timestamp and cue setting such as align:start.
  • Keeps line breaks inside cues, and tags like <i>, <b> and WebVTT voice tags such as <v Anna>.
  • Keeps the original line endings.
  • Uses the start time of each cue as context for the AI.

Tips

Up to 10,000 characters of text can be translated at once, which is about 15 to 25 minutes of dialogue. Numbers and timings do not count. Split longer files by time and translate the parts one by one.

FAQ

Will the timings change? No. Timings are never sent to the AI and are copied into the new file exactly.

Is my file uploaded? No. The file is read in your browser, and only the subtitle text is sent to the AI.
