What is a Google Calendar link?
A Google Calendar link is a specially formatted URL that, when clicked, opens Google Calendar with pre-filled event details. These links use the calendar.google.com/calendar/render endpoint with query parameters that specify the event title, date, time, location, and description. When someone clicks the link, they're taken directly to Google Calendar where they can review the event details and add it to their personal calendar with a single click.
This approach is widely used for event invitations, meeting scheduling, webinar registrations, and any scenario where you want to make it easy for others to add an event to their calendar without manually entering all the details.
How do Google Calendar event links work?
Google Calendar links follow a specific URL structure with several key parameters:
- action=TEMPLATE: Tells Google Calendar to create a new event from a template
- text: The event title
- dates: Start and end times in
YYYYMMDDTHHMMSS/YYYYMMDDTHHMMSSformat - details: Event description (supports plain text)
- location: Physical address or virtual meeting location
- ctz: Timezone identifier (e.g.,
America/New_York,Europe/London)
For all-day events, the date format changes to YYYYMMDD without the time component, and the end date should be the day after the event ends (exclusive end date).
